In September of 2008 the Lake Norman United Board set out on a mission to create parity and consistency among youth lacrosse programs in North Carolina. With connections between current board members and board members of other associations the idea of a Carolina Lacrosse Association (CLA) was initiated.

Lake Norman United (LNU), Mecklenburg Youth Lacrosse (MYL), Wesley Chapel Weddington Athletic Association (WCWAA) were the associations that first met to discuss rules, structure and philosophy. We all came out of that meeting excited and committed to each other to form CLA ( Carolina Lacrosse Association).

We have developed a set of rules that will be consistent among all CLA members. We have developed a scheduling group to make scheduling more efficient. CLA is the priority for each member association. Each association is committed to scheduling CLA games before you play non member associations.

After the initial three associations committed their allegiance to CLA, we contacted other organizations. The next to join was Charlotte Youth Lacrosse Association. Providence Youth Lacrosse Association as well as Fort Mill Youth Lacrosse have expressed very strong interest and intend to participate in the next CLA meeting.

The ball is rolling and looks like we will have a set of uniform rules, ease of scheduling and a very competitive lacrosse league for our kids to participate.

Many tanks go out to the members of each association that worked on developing this league:

Mike Desmond - MYL

Ed Gras - WCWAA

Donnie Robinson - CYL

MIke Nanney - LNU

Eric Adams - LNU
